Canada joining the Apostille Convention to facilitate the use of Canadian public documents in foreign jurisdictions

Canadian public documents to be used outside of Canada no longer need to be authenticated and legalized by the local consulate or embassy of the foreign country, so long as such country is also a signatory to the Apostille Convention.

Overview

Our Canada lawyers advise clients on some of the most significant cross-border transactions in the North American market, such as Catamaran Corporation’s US$12.8 billion merger with OptumRx, UnitedHealth Group's pharmacy benefits business. We also represented the first US real estate investment company to create a Canadian REIT to list its US assets on the Toronto Stock Exchange — one of the most successful cross-border REIT offerings in recent years.
